You watch a YouTube video and it looks so easy! "I can do that!" But when you get to it, applying makeup is harder than you think. All the girls on YouTube make it look so easy and effortless, but really, it takes a lot of skill!

With the tips and tricks in this article, you'll be able to do perfect your makeup routine in no time! Don't research “how to makeup face” anymore, because everything you need is right here!

What Do You Need to Do Your Makeup?

There's no need for you to have the makeup of a runway model for an everyday routine, so it's time to start with the basics. You need a simple set of makeup brushes, all the essential products, and all the essentials for taking off your makeup and cleansing your face!

A set of makeup brushes is something you can find at a pharmacy or drugstore, you don't need $300 brushes.

The first step of how to makeup face is moisturizer. It will keep your skin hydrated. Then primer, it helps get the skin ready and helps makeup last all day long. Matching a foundation to your skin color is very important because you don't want to look too dark or too light. I recommend going to get matched professionally just to be sure!

Concealer, contour, blush, highlight, and powder are next, followed by eye shadow, lipstick, an eyebrow pencil, and mascara. It seems like a lot, but once you get used to it, you'll have it done in no time. You'll want to buy makeup removing wipes, and get yourself a skincare routine for afterward.

What Are the Makeup Essentials for Beginners?

If that list looks too long, you can cut it down if you don't have the time or the money to spend on makeup! To get right back to the basics, we forget primer. You can also forget foundation and concealer if you're comfortable and just go for a light BB cream, it moisturizes as well! If not, go in with foundation and concealer. Bronzer will do basically the same job as contour and takes less time as well, but you don't need it.

A simple eye shadow palette will do just fine for every day wear. All you have to do is spend a day deciding what looks best and is easiest for you and there you have it, your first look. Practice, practice, practice and you will have it down pat quickly.

Also, practice mascara, it's a tricky skill to master. Fill in your brows very quickly, throw some simple gloss on your lips, dust some powder on your face and you're done! You can stick with this, or when you get more confident you can branch out! It's up to you.

A Step-by-Step Guide to Applying Makeup

Here's where it gets really detailed. I'm going to go through the list of products and explain how to use them. Buckle up, we're about to go for a ride!

  • Moisturizer - Make sure your face is clean and then apply moisturizer everywhere. Let it dry.
  • Primer- Apply all over your face and let dry.
  • Foundation - Squeeze some foundation onto the tip of your foundation brush. Dot the product over your face before blending it in evenly to your face and neck.
  • Concealer - Apply concealer to your under eyes with a smaller brush, or a beauty blender. Applying it in an upside down triangle shape brightens up your face.
  • Blush - Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks, blending upwards toward your temples. Be careful as you don't want too much blush.
  • Bronzer - Now be as light as you can with bronzer as it can be too much too quickly. Tap the brush before applying. Suck your cheeks in and apply it to just under the apples of your cheeks. Like the blush apply the bronzer in an upwards motion toward your temple.
  • Eye shadow - Apply a light shade to your eyelid and blend it in. Again, tap your brush to make sure you don't have too much product on the brush. In the crease of your eyelid, you want a darker shade than the one you used on your lid. Blend it in the crease, making sure not to go too far out toward your temple. (After your brows are done) Use an even lighter shade to highlight your brow bone.
  • Eyebrows - Fill in your eyebrows lightly with a brow pencil. Don't go too dark or too thick.
  • Lips - Use a lipstick, gloss or pencil, whatever you feel comfortable with. Stay in your lip line and fill in your lips. Start off with a natural color, something similar to the color of your lips.
  • Powder - As a finish, using a powder brush, lightly brush your face (avoiding your eyes and lips) to set the look.

How to Line Your Eyes

  • With your pencil or liquid liner, start by applying a thin line in the corner of your lash line. Continue all the way to your outer eye. You can stop there for a basic eyeliner look, but for winged liner, you want to continue. Start at your outer eye and draw a thin diagonal line going up toward your temple. Then apply a straight line that goes from the middle of your lid to meet the diagonal line. It won't look perfect the first time, but the more you practice the better you'll get!
